As one of only four 3-Star Presidentโs Club GAF Master Eliteโข certified roofing contractorโs in Texas, Ja-Mar Roofing & Sheet Metal can give you something most local roofers canโt. Itโs an outstanding warranty that we always recommend to our customers. Hereโs why.
You get GAF Golden Pledge lifetime coverage on your roof. Even if the installer goes out of business
The GAF Golden Pledge warranty gives you true lifetime, non-prorated coverage on the roofing system plus a workmanship warranty of 25 years. Thatโs 15-20 years longer than the typical rooferโs workmanship warranty. The average workmanship warranty is owned solely by the company that put the roof on. Therefore, if the company goes out of business, the warranty is no longer in effect. GAF backs workmanship regardless of who put the roof on.
You donโt get parts, you get an integrated system
Manufacturers state that you must use certain products to get their warranty. Using an off-brand product in the system gives each of the manufactures an โoutโ for their responsibility. If you use a generic underlayment and another manufacturerโs shingle, one will blame the other if there is a problem.
If the shingle company denies the claim and the underlayment company accepts the problem and agrees to replace the underlayment, how will it get on the roof? The shingles will need to be replaced and once theyโre torn off to replace the underlayment that additional cost will fall on the owner.
Thatโs why Ja-Mar Roofing uses a system. Everything we use is approved by GAF so if there is a problem, GAF is responsible.
Itโs all in the details
To qualify for a GAF Golden Pledge warranty, step flashing must be installed properly, typically requiring new metal flashing at wall intersections, extending a minimum of 4 inches up the wall and 4 inches onto the roof shingles, while also ensuring it's at least 2 inches longer than the shingle exposure; using GAF-labeled "Ultimate Pipe Flashing" at plumbing vents is highly recommended, though not strictly required for warranty coverage.
Key points about GAF step flashing and the Golden Pledge warranty:
- New metal flashing:ย When installing step flashing, new metal flashing is typically required unless the existing flashing is in like-new condition.
- Minimum dimensions:ย The step flashing should extend at least 4 inches up the wall and 4 inches onto the roof shingles.
- Shingle exposure length:ย The flashing should be at least 2 inches longer than the exposed part of the shingles.
- Ultimate Pipe Flashing:ย While not mandatory, using GAF-labeled "Ultimate Pipe Flashing" at plumbing vents is strongly recommended for optimal protection and to be covered under the warranty.
- Consult GAF guidelines:ย Always refer to the latest GAF Golden Pledge warranty documentation for the most up-to-date requirements and installation details.
- Master Elite Contractor:ย To qualify for the Golden Pledge warranty, the roof must be installed by a GAF Master Elite Contractor.
- Other accessories:ย Besides proper step flashing, the warranty usually requires additional qualifying GAF accessories like starter strips, ridge cap shingles, and leak barriers.
You get an independent factory inspection of your roof
GAF is the only manufacturer that offers a factory inspection with its GAF Golden Pledge warranty. That factory inspection takes the roofing company out of the equation. If there is an issue and the roofer is no longer in business or you donโt want to work with that same contractor again, you can still have your needs met without having to pay a new roofer.
However, not just any roofer can offer this kind of warranty. The roofer needs to be certified by the manufacturer. For GAF, that means Master Elite certified. Just because a contractor is Master Elite does not mean you automatically get a factory-inspected warranty. You must purchase the Golden Pledge Warranty.
