What Is GAF TimberSteel™?
TimberSteel is a premium metal roofing system built around individual steel field shingles rather than long standing seam panels. GAF manufactures TimberSteel-branded metal components from GALVALUME® steel, combining steel, aluminum, and zinc for strength and corrosion resistance.
The roof is designed as a coordinated system rather than just a field shingle. TimberSteel includes purpose-built components for the roof edges, valleys, ridges, ventilation, and deck protection so the major parts of the assembly are designed to work together.
GALVALUME® Steel
TimberSteel-branded metal components combine the performance qualities of steel, aluminum, and zinc for strength and corrosion resistance.
Shingle-Style Profile
The smaller-format metal shingles create horizontal courses across the roof instead of the pronounced vertical seams associated with standing seam panels.
Interlocking Design
GAF uses a top-and-bottom interlocking design with butyl adhesive as part of the TimberSteel field-shingle installation system.
Recyclable Steel
GAF states that TimberSteel-branded metal components are manufactured from recyclable steel.
Metal Roofing Without the Standing Seam Look

The field shingles are also tested to the TAS-100 wind-driven rain resistance protocol.

TimberSteel™ Testing & Product Standards
Product testing does not tell you everything about how a finished roof will perform, but it does provide useful information about the roofing material itself. GAF currently lists several applicable standards and protocols for TimberSteel field shingles.
Class 4 Impact
UL 2218 Class 4 impact-resistance classification.
Class F Wind
ASTM D3161 Class F wind-resistance classification.
TAS-100
Wind-driven rain resistance testing under TAS-100.
Class C Fire
ANSI/UL 790 Class C roofing fire rating for applicable assemblies.
Texas Requirements
GAF states that TimberSteel field shingles meet the requirements of the Texas Department of Insurance.
Testing classifications apply to TimberSteel™ shingles or applicable assemblies as identified by GAF. Installation requirements, product approvals, and complete system specifications should be confirmed for each project.
TimberSteel™ Color Options
GAF currently offers eight TimberSteel colors, giving homeowners choices that range from traditional black and gray to bronze, red, green, and blue. Because metal finishes can look different as lighting changes throughout the day, we recommend reviewing actual product samples before making a final selection.
Obsidian Black
A deep black finish that creates a strong roof profile and works well with both traditional and contemporary exterior designs.
Charcoal Gray
A versatile dark gray that pairs naturally with stone, brick, siding, stucco, and a wide range of exterior color palettes.
Platinum Gray
A lighter gray option that gives the roof a softer appearance while keeping the clean character of a metal roofing system.
Dark Bronze

Terra Bronze

Standing Seam
Standing seam roofing uses long metal panels connected by raised vertical seams. It creates the clean, linear appearance most people immediately recognize as architectural metal roofing.

30 Years
The qualifying TimberSteel ArmorPledge™ Limited Warranty includes 30 years of workmanship coverage, subject to GAF’s complete warranty requirements and exclusions.
Wind + Hail Coverage
Select TimberSteel system components may qualify for 15-year limited wind coverage with no maximum wind-speed limitation and 15-year limited coverage against leaks caused by hail when ArmorPledge™ requirements are met.
Paint Finish Coverage
Select TimberSteel components and colors may qualify for 30-year limited paint finish, fade, and chalking coverage. GAF currently lists Rustic Red with 20-year paint-finish coverage.

Is TimberSteel™ Available for Your Texas Home?
GAF currently lists TimberSteel availability in Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, with expansion to additional areas planned. Texas is not currently included in GAF’s published availability list.

Select TimberSteel components can qualify for 15-year limited coverage against leaks caused by hail when the TimberSteel ArmorPledge™ Limited Warranty is purchased and all GAF eligibility requirements are met. Complete coverage and exclusions are defined in the current GAF warranty.
Does TimberSteel™ require a certified contractor?
Yes. GAF states that TimberSteel is exclusively available through GAF Metal Certified Contractors. The enhanced TimberSteel ArmorPledge™ Limited Warranty also requires installation by a qualifying GAF Metal Certified Contractor along with the other applicable warranty requirements.
Is TimberSteel™ currently available in Texas?
GAF does not currently list Texas among the states where TimberSteel is available. The manufacturer says expansion to additional areas is planned, so availability may change as the product rollout continues.
